A little late for this update, so sorry about that. But, we recently played Flag Tag. Students were wearing flag football pull belts and the objective of the game was to pull off the belts of other students. This game has our students practicing the concepts of chasing and fleeing, which is essential for a lot of other sports and games.
For the week of 8/22-8/26, we played a game of indoor soccer. So, that means we only had one ball in play, no out of bounds, and split up into two teams. Last year, we did not split up into teams very often, and that is something I am trying to change this year. The students did not disappoint and all did very well. I am also working on trying to get a team together for Special Olympics, so, hopefully, this will not be the last chance for them to play soccer this year! We are starting the year off with a soccer unit in PE. For the first week, we are concentrating on 2 objectives: Students will kick the ball by moving the ball using their legs. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the rules of soccer by not using their hands to touch the ball. Focusing on these objectives will help our students' ability to participate in soccer games. Next week, we will be playing a game of soccer instead of focusing on skill development. Everyone has been very successful so far! Welcome back, everyone!
We are back in the swing of things here at Marvin Picollo! This week in Physical Education class, we are doing assessments on students' current abilities. We have a varied group of equipment out for the students to use. I am seeing how they interact with the equipment and assessing their ability levels as well as knowledge of the concepts used with the equipment. This is a great way for me to get to know the new students' abilities and preferences along with seeing where previous students abilities are after the summer break. I am also working on getting a Weight Training class set up for our upperclassmen. Double Diamond Athletic Club has graciously given us permission to use their facilities to help teach our students how to use fitness equipment. This will be another great opportunity for our students to go and interact with our community! I am very excited about what this school year will bring! If you have any questions, don't forget you can email me at klowe@washoeschools.net -Keith Lowe I have so many pictures from last year, I needed to make 2 posts for them all! Enjoy!
